Observation of a new particle in the search for the Standard Model Higgs boson with the ATLAS detector at the LHC

Georges Aad, +2967 more
- 17 Sep 2012 -
TL;DR: In this article, a search for the Standard Model Higgs boson in proton-proton collisions with the ATLAS detector at the LHC is presented, which has a significance of 5.9 standard deviations, corresponding to a background fluctuation probability of 1.7×10−9.
Journal ArticleDOI

Assessment of quality-of-life outcomes.

TL;DR: There has been a nearly exponential increase in the use of quality-of-life evaluation as a technique of clinical research since 1973, when only 5 articles listed “quality of life” as a reference key word in the MEDLINE data base; during the subsequent five-year periods there were 195, 273, 490, and 1252 such articles.
Journal ArticleDOI

The ATLAS Simulation Infrastructure

Georges Aad, +2585 more
TL;DR: The simulation software for the ATLAS Experiment at the Large Hadron Collider is being used for large-scale production of events on the LHC Computing Grid, including supporting the detector description, interfacing the event generation, and combining the GEANT4 simulation of the response of the individual detectors.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Effects of Antihypertensive Therapy on the Quality of Life

TL;DR: It is shown that antihypertensive agents have different effects on the quality of life and that these can be meaningfully assessed with available psychosocial measures.
