Protected Carotid-Artery Stenting versus Endarterectomy in High-Risk Patients

TL;DR: Stenting with the use of an emboli-protection device is a less invasive revascularization strategy than endarterectomy in carotid-artery disease and among patients with severe carotidsartery stenosis and coexisting conditions, it is found that the less invasive strategy, stenting, was not inferior to endarteretomy.
Journal ArticleDOI

Updated review of the global carotid artery stent registry.

TL;DR: The periprocedure risks for major and minor strokes and death are generally acceptable at this early stage of development and have shown an improvement with technological developments, including distal embolic protection.
Journal ArticleDOI

Protected carotid stenting in high-surgical-risk patients: the ARCHeR results

TL;DR: The ARCHeR results demonstrate that extracranial carotid artery stenting with embolic filter protection is not inferior to historical results of endarterectomy and suggest that carotids in arteries stenting is a safe, durable, and effective alternative in high-surgical-risk patients.
