TL;DR: Future development strategies should focus on antibiotics that are active against multidrug-resistant tuberculosis and Gram-negative bacteria, and include antibiotic-resistant bacteria responsible for community-acquired infections.
Journal ArticleDOI
What is antimicrobial stewardship
TL;DR: Viewing antimicrobial stewardship as a strategy, a coherent set of actions which promote using antimicrobials responsibly, and the continuous need for 'responsible use' to be defined and translated into context-specific and time-specific actions are suggested.
Journal ArticleDOI
Presence of antibiotic residues in various environmental compartments of Shandong province in eastern China: Its potential for resistance development and ecological and human risk.
Nada Hanna,Pan Sun,Qiang Sun,Xuewen Li,Xiwei Yang,Xiang Ji,Huiyun Zou,Jakob Ottoson,Lennart E. Nilsson,Björn Berglund,Oliver J. Dyar,Ashok J. Tamhankar,Cecilia Stålsby Lundborg +12 more
TL;DR: The investigated antibiotics did not appear to pose an appreciable direct human health risk from environmental exposure through drinking water or vegetables consumption, however, they might still pose a risk for resistance development.
Journal ArticleDOI
European medical students: a first multicentre study of knowledge, attitudes and perceptions of antibiotic prescribing and antibiotic resistance
Oliver J. Dyar,Céline Pulcini,Philip Howard,Dilip Nathwani,Bojana Beović,Stéphan Juergen Harbarth,Håkan Hanberger,Leonardo Pagani,José Ramón Paño Pardo,Agnes Weschesler-Fördös +9 more
TL;DR: Students wanted further education on antibiotic prescribing, and areas of lack of confidence were found, and students overestimated the current burden of resistant bacteria and were unaware of successes in reducing MRSA infections.
Journal ArticleDOI
How can we improve antibiotic prescribing in primary care
TL;DR: This review presents a broad perspective on antibiotic stewardship in primary care in high and high-middle income country settings, focussing on studies published in the last five years, and presents the limitations of available literature.
