Hematologic parameters in patients with COVID-19 infection.
Bingwen Eugene Fan,Vanessa Cui Lian Chong,Stephrene Seok Wei Chan,Gek Hsiang Lim,Kian Guan Eric Lim,Guat Bee Tan,Sharavan Sadasiv Mucheli,Ponnudurai Kuperan,Kiat Hoe Ong +8 more
TL;DR: A detailed analysis of the hematological parameters of the COVID-19 patients at the NCID revealed that a higher number of patients (69%) who were lymphopenic had the presence of a few reactive lymphocytes, of which a subset appeared lymphoplasmacytoid, which contrasts with the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) outbreak in 2003 where reactive lymph cells were not observed in a study on Haematologic parameters.
Journal ArticleDOI
Central obesity, insulin resistance, syndrome X, lipoprotein(a), and cardiovascular risk in Indians, Malays, and Chinese in Singapore.
TL;DR: Indians are more prone than Malays or Chinese to central obesity with insulin resistance and glucose intolerance and there are no apparent environmental reasons for this in Singapore, which puts Indians at increased risk of atherosclerosis and thrombosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Establishment of adult peripheral blood lymphocyte subset reference range for an Asian population by single-platform flow cytometry: influence of age, sex, and race and comparison with other published studies.
TL;DR: A normal reference range for peripheral blood lymphocyte subsets in a multiracial adult population is established by using single-platform flow cytometry and it is shown that the CD8+-cell counts decrease with age, there is a gender difference in NK cell percentages and counts, and there are significant differences in the CD3+-, CD4+-, and CD19+- cell counts between Indians and other racial groups.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cardiovascular risk factors in non-insulin-dependent diabetics compared to non-diabetic controls: a population-based survey among Asians in Singapore.
TL;DR: People with non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) had higher mean body mass indices, waist-hip ratios and abdominal diameters, and females with NIDDM, but not males, had a higher mean serum fibrinogen level than non-diabetics, which could explain why NID DM has a greater cardiovascular effect in females than males.
Journal ArticleDOI
