End-To-End Models for the Analysis of Marine Ecosystems: Challenges, Issues, and Next Steps
Kenneth A. Rose,J. Icarus Allen,Yuri Artioli,Manuel Barange,Jerry Blackford,Francois Carlotti,Roger Allan Cropp,Ute Daewel,Karen P. Edwards,Kevin J. Flynn,Simeon L. Hill,Reinier HilleRisLambers,Geir Huse,Steven Mackinson,Bernard A. Megrey,Andreas Moll,Richard B. Rivkin,Baris Salihoglu,Corinna Schrum,Lynne J. Shannon,Yunne-Jai Shin,S. Lan Smith,Caleb Smith,Cosimo Solidoro,Michael St. John,Meng Zhou +25 more
TL;DR: End-to-end modeling is in its early developmental stages and thus presents an opportunity to establish an open-access, community-based approach supported by a suite of true interdisciplinary efforts.
Journal ArticleDOI
Biomass changes and trophic amplification of plankton in a warmer ocean
Guillem Chust,J. Icarus Allen,Laurent Bopp,Corinna Schrum,Jason Holt,Kostas Tsiaras,Marco Zavatarelli,Marina Chifflet,Heather Cannaby,Heather Cannaby,Isabelle Dadou,Ute Daewel,Ute Daewel,Sarah Wakelin,Eric Machu,Dhanya Pushpadas,Momme Butenschön,Yuri Artioli,George Petihakis,Caleb Smith,Véronique Garçon,Katerina Goubanova,Briac Le Vu,Bettina A. Fach,Baris Salihoglu,Emanuela Clementi,Xabier Irigoien +26 more
TL;DR: Results indicate that globally and in Atlantic Margin and North Sea, increased ocean stratification causes primary production and zooplankton biomass to decrease in response to a warming climate, whilst in the Barents, Baltic and Black Seas, primary production
Journal ArticleDOI
Potential impacts of climate change on the primary production of regional seas: A comparative analysis of five European seas
Jason Holt,Corinna Schrum,Heather Cannaby,Ute Daewel,Ute Daewel,Icarus Allen,Yuri Artioli,Laurent Bopp,Momme Butenschön,Bettina A. Fach,James Harle,Dhanya Pushpadas,Dhanya Pushpadas,Baris Salihoglu,Sarah Wakelin +14 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors explore the response of five regional sea areas to potential future climate change, acting via atmospheric, oceanic and terrestrial vectors, and contrast with a region of the Northeast Atlantic.
Journal ArticleDOI
Simulating long-term dynamics of the coupled North Sea and Baltic Sea ecosystem with ECOSMO II: Model description and validation
Ute Daewel,Corinna Schrum +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, an updated version of the fully coupled bio-physical model ECOSMO, a 3D hydrodynamic and a N(utrient)P(hytoplankton)Z(ooplp)D(etritus) model, which is now adopted to the coupled system North Sea-Baltic Sea, is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
Coupling ecosystem and individual‐based models to simulate the influence of environmental variability on potential growth and survival of larval sprat (Sprattus sprattus L.) in the North Sea
Ute Daewel,Myron A. Peck,Wilfried Kühn,Michael St. John,Irina Alekseeva,Irina Alekseeva,Corinna Schrum,Corinna Schrum +7 more
TL;DR: Good agreement between modelled and in situ estimates of sprat distribution and growth rates in the German Bight suggested that interconnecting these different models provided an expedient tool to scrutinize basic processes in fish population dynamics.
