A GAL4-Driver Line Resource for Drosophila Neurobiology
Arnim Jenett,Gerald M. Rubin,Teri-T B. Ngo,David Shepherd,Christine Murphy,Heather Dionne,Barret D. Pfeiffer,Amanda Cavallaro,Donald Hall,Jennifer Jeter,Nirmala Iyer,Dona Fetter,Joanna H. Hausenfluck,Hanchuan Peng,Eric T. Trautman,Robert Svirskas,Eugene W. Myers,Zbigniew R. Iwinski,Yoshinori Aso,Gina M. DePasquale,Adrianne Enos,Phuson Hulamm,S. Lam,Hsing-Hsi Li,Todd R. Laverty,Fuhui Long,Lei Qu,Sean D. Murphy,Konrad Rokicki,Todd Safford,Kshiti Shaw,Julie H. Simpson,Allison Sowell,Susana Tae,Yang Yu,Christopher T. Zugates +35 more
TL;DR: The utility of 7,000 transgenic lines of Drosophila melanogaster for identifying novel neuronal cell types, revealing brain asymmetry, and describing the nature and extent of neuronal shape stereotypy is illustrated.
Journal ArticleDOI
The neuronal architecture of the mushroom body provides a logic for associative learning
Yoshinori Aso,Daisuke Hattori,Yang Yu,Rebecca M. Johnston,Nirmala Iyer,Teri T.B. Ngo,Heather Dionne,Larry F. Abbott,Richard Axel,Hiromu Tanimoto,Gerald M. Rubin +10 more
TL;DR: The elucidation of the complement of neurons of the MB provides a comprehensive anatomical substrate from which one can infer a functional logic of associative olfactory learning and memory.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mushroom body output neurons encode valence and guide memory-based action selection in Drosophila
Yoshinori Aso,Divya Sitaraman,Toshiharu Ichinose,Karla R. Kaun,Katrin Vogt,Ghislain Belliart-Guérin,Pierre-Yves Plaçais,Alice A. Robie,Nobuhiro Yamagata,Christopher Schnaitmann,William J Rowell,Rebecca M. Johnston,Teri T.B. Ngo,Nan Chen,Wyatt Korff,Michael N. Nitabach,Ulrike Heberlein,Thomas Preat,Kristin Branson,Hiromu Tanimoto,Gerald M. Rubin +20 more
TL;DR: This work studied the role of MBONs in several associative learning tasks and in sleep regulation, revealing the extent to which information flow is segregated into distinct channels and suggesting possible roles for the multi-layered MBON network.
Journal ArticleDOI
A subset of dopamine neurons signals reward for odour memory in Drosophila
Chang Liu,Pierre-Yves Plaçais,Nobuhiro Yamagata,Barret D. Pfeiffer,Yoshinori Aso,Anja B. Friedrich,Igor Siwanowicz,Gerald M. Rubin,Thomas Preat,Hiromu Tanimoto +9 more
TL;DR: It is shown that a group of dopamine neurons in the protocerebral anterior medial (PAM) cluster signals sugar reward by transient activation and inactivation of target neurons in intact behaving flies and highlights the cellular specificity underlying the various roles of dopamine and the importance of spatially segregated local circuits within the MBs.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Mushroom Body of Adult Drosophila Characterized by GAL4 Drivers
Yoshinori Aso,Kornelia Grübel,Sebastian Busch,Anja B. Friedrich,Igor Siwanowicz,Hiromu Tanimoto +5 more
TL;DR: This study analyzed and compared the the expression patterns of 25 GAL4 drivers labeling the mushroom body, and established a digital catalog indexing representative confocal data of them, which lays groundwork for functional dissection of the mushrooms body.
