A comprehensive classification system for lipids
Eoin Fahy,Shankar Subramaniam,H. Alex Brown,Christopher K. Glass,Alfred H. Merrill,Robert C. Murphy,Christian R. H. Raetz,David W. Russell,Yousuke Seyama,Walter A. Shaw,Takao Shimizu,Friedrich Spener,Gerrit van Meer,Michael S. VanNieuwenhze,Stephen H. White,Joseph L. Witztum,Edward A. Dennis +16 more
TL;DR: A comprehensive classification of lipids with a common platform that is compatible with informatics requirements has been developed to deal with the massive amounts of data that will be generated by the lipid community.

TL;DR: A structured vocabulary will facilitate the systematization of lipid biology and enable the cataloging of lipids and their properties in a way that is compatible with other macromolecular databases.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: The lipidomic response of the murine macrophage RAW cell line to Kdo2-lipid A, the active component of an inflammatory lipopolysaccharide functioning as a selective TLR4 agonist and compactin, a statin inhibitor of cholesterol biosynthesis is reported.
Journal ArticleDOI
Kdo2-Lipid A of Escherichia coli, a defined endotoxin that activates macrophages via TLR-4
Christian R. H. Raetz,Teresa A. Garrett,C. Michael Reynolds,Walter A. Shaw,Jeff D. Moore,Dale C. Smith,Anthony A. Ribeiro,Robert C. Murphy,Richard J. Deems,Edward A. Dennis +19 more
TL;DR: A large-scale preparation of 3-deoxy-d-manno-octulosonic acid (Kdo)2-Lipid A, a nearly homogeneous Re lipopolysaccharide (LPS) sub-structure with endotoxin activity equal to LPS is reported.
Journal ArticleDOI
Identification of N-acylphosphatidylserine molecules in eukaryotic cells.
TL;DR: It is suggested that a phospholipase D might cleave N-acyl-PS to generate N-ACYlserine, in analogy to the biosynthesis of the endocannabinoid N-arachidonoylethanolamine (anadamide) from N-Arachidonoylphosphatidylethanolamines.
