Journal ArticleDOI
Emergence of plasmid-mediated colistin resistance mechanism MCR-1 in animals and human beings in China: A microbiological and molecular biological study
Yiyun Liu,Yang Wang,Timothy R. Walsh,Ling-Xian Yi,Rong Zhang,James Spencer,Yohei Doi,Guo-Bao Tian,Baolei Dong,Xianhui Huang,Lin-Feng Yu,Danxia Gu,Hongwei Ren,Xiaojie Chen,Luchao Lv,Dandan He,Hongwei Zhou,Zi-sen Liang,Jian-Hua Liu,Jianzhong Shen +19 more
TL;DR: The emergence of MCR-1 heralds the breach of the last group of antibiotics, polymyxins, by plasmid-mediated resistance, in Enterobacteriaceae and emphasise the urgent need for coordinated global action in the fight against pan-drug-resistant Gram-negative bacteria.
Journal ArticleDOI
Nationwide Surveillance of Clinical Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) Strains in China.
Rong Zhang,Lizhang Liu,Hongwei Zhou,Edward Wai-Chi Chan,Jiaping Li,Ying Fang,Yi Li,Kang Liao,Sheng Chen +8 more
TL;DR: The increasing prevalence of CRE strains in China is attributed to dissemination of conservative mobile elements carrying blaNDM or blaKPC-2 on conjugative and non-conjugative plasmids.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prevalence, risk factors, outcomes, and molecular epidemiology of mcr-1-positive Enterobacteriaceae in patients and healthy adults from China: an epidemiological and clinical study
Yang Wang,Guo-Bao Tian,Rong Zhang,Yingbo Shen,Jonathan M. Tyrrell,Xi Huang,Hongwei Zhou,Lei Lei,Hongyu Li,Yohei Doi,Ying Fang,Hongwei Ren,Lan-Lan Zhong,Zhangqi Shen,Kun-Jiao Zeng,Shaolin Wang,Jian-Hua Liu,Congming Wu,Timothy R. Walsh,Jianzhong Shen +19 more
TL;DR: The prevalence of MCRPE in human infections and carriage, clinical associations of mcr-1-positive Escherichia coli (M CRPEC) infection, and risk factors for MCRPEC carriage are reported.
Journal ArticleDOI
Emergence of Serratia marcescens, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Escherichia coli Isolates Possessing the Plasmid-Mediated Carbapenem-Hydrolyzing β-Lactamase KPC-2 in Intensive Care Units of a Chinese Hospital
TL;DR: Enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus-PCR and pulsed-field gel electrophoresis demonstrated that all the S. marcescens isolates belonged to a clonal strain and the 10 Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates were indistinguishable or closely related to each other.
Journal ArticleDOI
Anthropogenic and environmental factors associated with high incidence of mcr-1 carriage in humans across China
Yingbo Shen,Hongwei Zhou,Jiao Xu,Yongqiang Wang,Qijing Zhang,Timothy R. Walsh,Bing Shao,Congming Wu,Yanyan Hu,Lu Yang,Zhangqi Shen,Zuowei Wu,Qiaoling Sun,Yanran Ou,Yue-ling Wang,Shaolin Wang,Yongning Wu,Chang Cai,Juan Li,Jianzhong Shen,Rong Zhang,Yang Wang +21 more
TL;DR: The high prevalence of MCRPEC in the community poses a substantial risk for colistin usage in clinical practice and suggests the need for intestinal screening of mCR-1 carriers in intensive care units in Chinese hospitals, and suggests that aquaculture is a significant reservoir of mcr-1.
