Journal ArticleDOI
Emergence of plasmid-mediated colistin resistance mechanism MCR-1 in animals and human beings in China: A microbiological and molecular biological study
Yiyun Liu,Yang Wang,Timothy R. Walsh,Ling-Xian Yi,Rong Zhang,James Spencer,Yohei Doi,Guo-Bao Tian,Baolei Dong,Xianhui Huang,Lin-Feng Yu,Danxia Gu,Hongwei Ren,Xiaojie Chen,Luchao Lv,Dandan He,Hongwei Zhou,Zi-sen Liang,Jian-Hua Liu,Jianzhong Shen +19 more
TL;DR: The emergence of MCR-1 heralds the breach of the last group of antibiotics, polymyxins, by plasmid-mediated resistance, in Enterobacteriaceae and emphasise the urgent need for coordinated global action in the fight against pan-drug-resistant Gram-negative bacteria.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prevalence and characterisation of CTX-M β-lactamases amongst Escherichia coli isolates from healthy food animals in China.
Hongqing Zheng,Zhenling Zeng,Sheng Chen,Ya-Hong Liu,Qiongfen Yao,Yuting Deng,Xiaojie Chen,Luchao Lv,Chao Zhuo,Zhangliu Chen,Jian-Hua Liu +10 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that commensal E. coli from healthy food animals can be important reservoirs of bla(CTX-M) genes and may contribute to the dissemination and transfer of these β-lactamase genes throughout China.
Journal ArticleDOI
Increasing prevalence of extended-spectrum cephalosporin-resistant Escherichia coli in food animals and the diversity of CTX-M genotypes during 2003-2012
Lili Rao,Luchao Lv,Zhenling Zeng,Sheng Chen,Dandan He,Xiaojie Chen,Congming Wu,Yang Wang,Tong Yang,Peng Wu,Ya-Hong Liu,Jian-Hua Liu +11 more
TL;DR: The study reported the dramatic increase of CTX-M ESBLs in E. coli isolated from animals overtime in China and highlighted the need for urgent control strategies to limit the dissemination of those resistant genes in China.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fitness Advantage of mcr-1-Bearing IncI2 and IncX4 Plasmids in Vitro.
Renjie Wu,Ling-Xian Yi,Lin-Feng Yu,Jing Wang,Yiyun Liu,Xiaojie Chen,Luchao Lv,Jun Yang,Jian-Hua Liu +8 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that IncI2, IncX4, and IncHI2 were the major plasmid types driving the dissemination of mcr-1 in this farm and worldwide and increased fitness or co-selection by other antimicrobials might contribute to the further dissemination of the three epidemic mCr-1–positive plasmids.
Journal ArticleDOI
High Prevalence of Colistin Resistance and mcr-1 Gene in Escherichia coli Isolated from Food Animals in China
Xianhui Huang,Lin-Feng Yu,Xiaojie Chen,Chanping Zhi,Xu Yao,Yiyun Liu,Shengjun Wu,Ze-Wen Guo,Linxian Yi,Zhenling Zeng,Jian-Hua Liu +10 more
TL;DR: The high frequency of colistin resistance and mcr-1 gene among E. coli isolates from food animals in China urged the need to minimize potential risks of colistsin resistance development and the spread of mcr -1 gene.
