Journal ArticleDOI

The ALICE experiment at the CERN LHC

K. Aamodt, +1154 more
TL;DR: The Large Ion Collider Experiment (ALICE) as discussed by the authors is a general-purpose, heavy-ion detector at the CERN LHC which focuses on QCD, the strong-interaction sector of the Standard Model.
Journal ArticleDOI

Challenges in QCD matter physics --The scientific programme of the Compressed Baryonic Matter experiment at FAIR

T. O. Ablyazimov, +602 more
TL;DR: The Compressed Baryonic Matter (CBM) experiment at FAIR will play a unique role in the exploration of the QCD phase diagram in the region of high net-baryon densities, because it is designed to run at unprecedented interaction rates.
Journal ArticleDOI

Challenges in QCD matter physics - The Compressed Baryonic Matter experiment at FAIR

TL;DR: The Compressed Baryonic Matter (CBM) experiment at FAIR will play a unique role in the exploration of the QCD phase diagram in the region of high net-baryon densities, because it is designed to run at unprecedented interaction rates as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI

Functional Regurgitation of Atrioventricular Valves and Atrial Fibrillation: An Elusive Pathophysiological Link Deserving Further Attention.

TL;DR: The comparative anatomy of mitral and tricuspid apparatus and the pathophysiology and typical echocardiographic features of atrial functional regurgitation compared with ventricular functional regurger are described, as well as the added value of three-dimensional echOCardiography as an essential imaging tool to clarify the mechanisms involved in its development.
Journal ArticleDOI

Circulating microparticles and endothelial progenitor cells in atherosclerosis: pharmacological effects of irbesartan.

TL;DR: Hypertension associated with hypercholesterolemia is accompanied by structural modifications and expression of pro‐inflammatory molecules by the vessel wall, the alteration of vascular tone, enhanced release of MPs and reduced EPCs; the ratio between the latter two may be considered as a marker of vascular dysfunction.
