Journal ArticleDOI
Intestinal mucosal adherence and translocation of commensal bacteria at the early onset of type 2 diabetes: molecular mechanisms and probiotic treatment
Jacques Amar,Chantal Chabo,Aurélie Waget,Pascale Klopp,Christelle Vachoux,Luis G. Bermúdez-Humarán,Natalia F. Smirnova,Mathieu Bergé,Mathieu Bergé,Thierry Sulpice,Sampo J. Lahtinen,Arthur C. Ouwehand,Philippe Langella,Nina Rautonen,Philippe J. Sansonetti,Rémy Burcelin +15 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the early onset of HFD‐induced hyperglycemia is characterized by an increased bacterial translocation from intestine towards tissues, fuelling a continuous metabolic bacteremia, which could represent new therapeutic targets.
Journal ArticleDOI
Detection and quantification of epithelial progenitor cell populations in human healthy and IPF lungs
Natalia F. Smirnova,Andrea C. Schamberger,S. Nayakanti,RA Hatz,Juergen Behr,Oliver Eickelberg +5 more
TL;DR: A quantitative profile of the distribution of epithelial progenitor populations in human lungs is provided for the first time, showing compelling evidence for dysregulation and aberrant differentiation of these populations in IPF.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Activation Function-1 of Estrogen Receptor Alpha Prevents Arterial Neointima Development Through a Direct Effect on Smooth Muscle Cells.
Natalia F. Smirnova,Coralie Fontaine,Melissa Buscato,Adrien Lupieri,Alexia Vinel,Marie Cécile Valera,Maeva Guillaume,Nicole Malet,Jean-Michel Foidart,Isabelle Raymond-Letron,Françoise Lenfant,Pierre Gourdy,Benita S. Katzenellenbogen,John A. Katzenellenbogen,Muriel Laffargue,Jean-François Arnal +15 more
TL;DR: This research presents a novel probabilistic approach that allows us to assess the importance of knowing the carrier and removal status of canine coronavirus as a source of infection for other animals.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cholesterol metabolism promotes B‐cell positioning during immune pathogenesis of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
Jie Jia,Thomas M. Conlon,Rim S.J. Sarker,Demet Taşdemir,Natalia F. Smirnova,Barkha Srivastava,Stijn E. Verleden,Gizem Gunes,Xiao Wu,Cornelia Prehn,Jiaqi Gao,Katharina Heinzelmann,Jutta Lintelmann,Martin Irmler,Stefan Pfeiffer,Michael Schloter,Ralf Zimmermann,Martin Hrabé de Angelis,Johannes Beckers,Jerzy Adamski,Hasan Bayram,Hasan Bayram,Oliver Eickelberg,Ali Önder Yildirim +23 more
TL;DR: These studies are the first to mechanistically interrogate oxysterol‐dependent iBALT formation in the pathogenesis of COPD, and identify a novel therapeutic target for the treatment of COPd and potentially other diseases driven by the generation of tertiary lymphoid organs.
Journal ArticleDOI
Selective Activation of Estrogen Receptor α Activation Function-1 Is Sufficient to Prevent Obesity, Steatosis, and Insulin Resistance in Mouse.
Maeva Guillaume,S. Handgraaf,Aurelie Fabre,Isabelle Raymond-Letron,Elodie Riant,Alexandra Montagner,Alexia Vinel,Melissa Buscato,Natalia F. Smirnova,Coralie Fontaine,Hervé Guillou,Jean-François Arnal,Pierre Gourdy +12 more
TL;DR: The combination of pharmacologic and transgenic approaches indicates that selective ERα-AF1 activation by tamoxifen is sufficient to elicit metabolic protection, contrasting with the specific requirement of ER α-AF2 in the metabolic actions of 17β-estradiol.
