The CMS experiment at the CERN LHC

S. Chatrchyan, +3175 more
TL;DR: The Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) detector at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN as mentioned in this paper was designed to study proton-proton (and lead-lead) collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 14 TeV (5.5 TeV nucleon-nucleon) and at luminosities up to 10(34)cm(-2)s(-1)
Journal ArticleDOI

The effect of highly ionising particles on the CMS silicon strip tracker

Wolfgang Adam, +403 more
TL;DR: Inelastic nuclear collisions of hadrons incident on silicon sensors can generate secondary highly ionizing particles (HIPs) and deposit as much energy within the sensor bulk as several hundred minimum ionising particles.
Journal ArticleDOI

Test of CMS tracker silicon detector modules with the ARC system

TL;DR: In this article, an automated fault finding algorithm has been developed which uses the full correlations between different electrical tests using the results of a recent production of over 250 Tracker Outer Barrel and 25 Tracker End Cap modules at UCSB demonstrate that the testing protocols are sufficient to find all known faults and that electrical module components produced have a high quality.
Journal ArticleDOI

Test of CMS tracker silicon detector modules with the ARC readout system

TL;DR: In this article, a set-up called APV Readout Controller (ARC) was developed and distributed among all collaborating institutes to perform full readout tests of hybrids and modules at each production step.
