Guidelines for the use and interpretation of assays for monitoring autophagy

Daniel J. Klionsky, +1287 more
- 01 Apr 2012 -
TL;DR: These guidelines are presented for the selection and interpretation of methods for use by investigators who aim to examine macroautophagy and related processes, as well as for reviewers who need to provide realistic and reasonable critiques of papers that are focused on these processes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Assessing autophagy in the context of photodynamic therapy

TL;DR: Autophagy can occur independent of apoptosis in PDT protocols, and appears to play a pro-survival role in apoptosis competent cells, and aPro-death role in euthanasia incompetent cells.
Journal ArticleDOI

Quantitative RT-PCR on CYP1A1 heterogeneous nuclear RNA: a surrogate for the in vitro transcription run-on assay.

TL;DR: The RT-PCR assay revealed TCDD-dependent transcriptional activation of the Cyp1a-1 gene in murine skin, a tissue unsuited to the nuclear run-on assay because of inherent difficulties associated with the isolation of nuclei.
Journal ArticleDOI

Initiation of apoptosis and autophagy by photodynamic therapy.

TL;DR: Murine leukemia L1210 cells and human prostate Bax-deficient DU-145 cells were examined after PDT-induced photodamage to the endoplasmic reticulum and autophagy may play a role in the ability of photodynamic therapy to stimulate immunologic recognition of target cells.
