Guidelines for the use and interpretation of assays for monitoring autophagy

Daniel J. Klionsky, +1287 more
- 01 Apr 2012 -
TL;DR: These guidelines are presented for the selection and interpretation of methods for use by investigators who aim to examine macroautophagy and related processes, as well as for reviewers who need to provide realistic and reasonable critiques of papers that are focused on these processes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Protein AMPylation by an Evolutionarily Conserved Pseudokinase.

TL;DR: It is shown that the highly conserved pseudokinase selenoprotein-O (SelO) transfers AMP from ATP to Ser, Thr, and Tyr residues on protein substrates (AMPylation), uncovering a previously unrecognized activity for a member of the protein kinase superfamily.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mitochondrial ATP synthase disorders : Molecular mechanisms and the quest for curative therapeutic approaches

TL;DR: The application of novel scientific approaches promises to deepen the understanding of the molecular mechanisms of the ATP synthase, unravel novel therapeutic pathways and improve the unfortunate situation of the patients suffering from such diseases.
Journal ArticleDOI

A yeast-based assay identifies drugs active against human mitochondrial disorders

TL;DR: A rapid, yeast-based assay to screen for drugs active against human inherited mitochondrial diseases affecting ATP synthase, in particular NARP (neuropathy, ataxia, and retinitis pigmentosa) syndrome is established and it is suggested that this type of method could be applied to other mitochondrial diseases.
