Guidelines for the use and interpretation of assays for monitoring autophagy

Daniel J. Klionsky, +1287 more
- 01 Apr 2012 -
TL;DR: These guidelines are presented for the selection and interpretation of methods for use by investigators who aim to examine macroautophagy and related processes, as well as for reviewers who need to provide realistic and reasonable critiques of papers that are focused on these processes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Autophagy Regulates Cholesterol Efflux from Macrophage Foam Cells via Lysosomal Acid Lipase

TL;DR: It is concluded that, in macrophage foam cells, lysosomal hydrolysis contributes to the mobilization of LD-associated cholesterol for reverse cholesterol transport.
Journal ArticleDOI

HDL and Reverse Cholesterol Transport.

TL;DR: On balance, the evidence still argues for further research to better understand how HDL functionality contributes to RCT to develop prevention and treatment strategies to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.
Journal ArticleDOI

MicroRNA-33–dependent regulation of macrophage metabolism directs immune cell polarization in atherosclerosis

TL;DR: It is determined that miR-33-mediated disruption of the balance of aerobic glycolysis and mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation instructs macrophage inflammatory polarization and shapes innate and adaptive immune responses and atheroprotective, in part, by reducing plaque inflammation by promoting M2 macrophages polarization and Treg induction.
