Guidelines for the use and interpretation of assays for monitoring autophagy

Daniel J. Klionsky, +1287 more
- 01 Apr 2012 -
TL;DR: These guidelines are presented for the selection and interpretation of methods for use by investigators who aim to examine macroautophagy and related processes, as well as for reviewers who need to provide realistic and reasonable critiques of papers that are focused on these processes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Advances in Silkworm Studies Accelerated by the Genome Sequencing of Bombyx mori

TL;DR: The new and exciting progress and discoveries that have been made in B. mori during the past 10 years include the construction of a fine genome sequence and a genetic variation map, the evolution of genomes, the advent of functional genomics, the genetic basis of silk production, metamorphic development, immune response, and the advances in genetic manipulation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Autophagy precedes apoptosis during the remodeling of silkworm larval midgut

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that larval midgut degradation is due to the concerted action of the two mechanisms, which occur at different times and have different functions, and that the process of autophagy can recycle molecules from the degenerating cells and supply nutrients to the animal during the non-feeding period.

Autophagy in Lepidoptera: more than old wine in new bottle

TL;DR: The use of moths and butterflies as models for tudying the roles and regulation of autophagy is discussed and insights into the cooperation between utophagy and apoptosis in cell death events that occur in lepidopteran in vivo and in vitro systems are given.
