Guidelines for the use and interpretation of assays for monitoring autophagy (3rd edition)

Daniel J. Klionsky, +2522 more
- 21 Jan 2016 -
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a set of guidelines for the selection and interpretation of methods for use by investigators who aim to examine macro-autophagy and related processes, as well as for reviewers who need to provide realistic and reasonable critiques of papers that are focused on these processes.
Journal ArticleDOI

p62/SQSTM1 is a target gene for transcription factor NRF2 and creates a positive feedback loop by inducing antioxidant response element-driven gene transcription.

TL;DR: This work has mapped an antioxidant response element (ARE) in the p62 promoter that is responsible for its induction by oxidative stress via NRF2 and explains how p62 contributes to activation ofNRF2 target genes in response to oxidative stress through creating a positive feedback loop.

ATG8 family proteins act as scaffolds for assembly of the ULK complex: sequence requirements for LC3-interacting region (LIR) motifs

TL;DR: ATG8 family proteins act as scaffolds anchoring the ULK complex on autophagosomes, and the LIR motif is required for starvation-induced association of ULK1 with autophagy, in addition to the known requirements of the aromatic and hydrophobic residues of the core motif.
